The estate
The Domaine Poisot Père & Fils traces its roots to the Latour family heritage, dating back to 1902 when Marie Poisot inherited part of the family vineyards. Rémi Poisot, a former captain in the French Navy for twenty-eight years, took over the family estate in 2010 after a career change. Based in Aloxe-Corton in Burgundy, the estate spans around 2 hectares, including three Grands Crus and one Premier Cru. Rémi Poisot manages the vineyard using highly sustainable practices, without herbicides or insecticides, and bottles the production at the estate, thus perpetuating the authenticity of Burgundy wines.
The vineyard
This Pernand-Vergelesses white wine comes from plots located on the Côte de Beaune. The Chardonnay vines benefit from favorable exposure and a limestone terroir that lends the wine its distinctive minerality. The estate carries out regular soil work through plowing and performs careful trellising to encourage good grape ripening. The harvest is carried out by hand with rigorous sorting directly in the vineyard, and the grapes are transported in small crates to preserve their integrity.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage in Burgundy proved early from the beginning to the end of the growing cycle. After a mild, wet winter, budbreak occurred in mid-April under sunny conditions. Chardonnay benefited from a successful flowering in early May in good conditions. From June through the end of the season, conditions were hot and dry, making 2020 the driest year since 1945. Veraison began in mid-July. This year is characterized by high acidity, mainly made up of tartaric acid, and concentrated fruit, producing exceptional wines with remarkable aging potential.
Vinification and aging
The grapes for this Pernand-Vergelesses 2020 are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and carefully sorted. Vinification is carried out with great care to preserve the expression of the terroir and the aromatic purity of Chardonnay. Treatments are measured, and the approach in the cellar remains minimally interventionist, in keeping with the estate’s philosophy of producing authentic wines that faithfully reflect their origin.
