Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the RQWR Riesling 2024 from Domaine Trapet
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a delicate pale yellow hue, enhanced by brilliant crystalline highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely citrus freshness of lemon and grapefruit, accompanied by notes of crisp white fruit such as green apple and pear. Subtle hints of white flowers intertwine with a deep mineral signature, evoking iodine and light touches of petrol.
Palate
Remarkably pure, the palate is straight and taut, carried by a finely chiselled acidity that lends it great energy. This dry wine shows a remarkable balance between its acidic backbone and a delicate texture. The long, vibrant finish is marked by citrus zest and a deep salinity.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with raw or marinated fish, such as ceviche or tartare, as well as with seafood. It also makes a superb match for spicy vegetarian dishes, white meats and regional specialities such as poultry cooked in white wine.
Serving and cellaring
This RQWR Riesling 2024 can be enjoyed young for its vibrancy, but it also has fine ageing potential, allowing it to be cellared and enjoyed until around 2032.
The tension and mineral purity of a great white wine from Alsace
The estate
The family's winemaking history began in Burgundy at the end of the 19th century, with the estate officially founded in 1919. In the early 2000s, Andrée Trapet decided to take over her parents' vines and establish Domaine Trapet in Alsace. Today, she runs this 14-hectare estate with her sons, Pierre and Louis Trapet. Certified biodynamic, the estate stands out for its pursuit of a pure expression of terroir and its minimal-intervention winemaking, and has become an essential reference in the region.
The vineyard
Located in the village of Riquewihr in Alsace, the plot dedicated to this cuvée covers a single hectare. The vines, around thirty years old, thrive on a complex hillside terroir combining granite influences, marl, sandstone and limestone deposits. The entire vineyard is farmed according to strict biodynamic principles, with the vines trained on individual stakes to encourage deep rooting and greater resilience to the climate.
Vinification and ageing
After meticulous sorting of the bunches in the vineyard, the RQWR Riesling 2024 is vinified with minimal intervention. Fermentation takes place slowly with indigenous yeasts and without any additives, in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large wooden vessels. The wine then undergoes extended ageing on fine lees in old foudres, preserving all of its aromatic purity before bottling.
