Apricot, peach, lemon, mineral and spice aromas and flavors are buoyed by vibrant acidity in this well-delineated white. Turns more elegant on the finish, where the oak spice accents persist. Drink now through 2033. 110 cases imported.

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "La Chaneau" 2023 by Domaines Leflaive

    Tasting notes

    Appearance
This white wine reveals a beautiful golden colour with green highlights.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet unveils scents of perfectly ripe yellow fruits and delicate white flowers. The whole is enhanced by indulgent notes of toasted almonds and hazelnut, along with a subtle toasted and vanilla touch.

    Palate
The attack is lively and energetic, opening onto a dense and enveloping mid-palate thanks to a lovely volume. The balance between power and freshness is remarkable. The finish stretches on at length, underlined by a mineral framework and a delicate saline note.

    Food and wine pairings

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as roasted turbot fillet, pan-seared scallops or crustaceans like lobster. It also accompanies white meats, particularly roasted poultry, as well as cooked pressed cheeses such as an aged Comté.

    Serving and cellaring

This wine has a fine ageing potential. It can be kept in the cellar for several years to allow its aromatic palette to gain in complexity.

The expression of a great Pouilly-Fuissé terroir by Domaine Leflaive

    The estate

Established in Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Leflaive was founded in its modern form in 1905 by Joseph Leflaive, although the family has been cultivating vines here since 1717. A pioneer of biodynamics under the impetus of Anne-Claude Leflaive in the 1990s, the estate is recognised worldwide for its great white wines. Today, Brice de la Morandière, representing the fourth generation, runs the estate. He upholds the excellence and environmentally respectful approach that have earned this wine-growing institution its reputation, while extending its expertise to new terroirs.

    The vineyard

The La Chaneau plot covers only 0.28 hectares within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Planted in 1981 and 1996, the vines thrive at the foot of the famous Roche de Solutré. This singular terroir stands out for its steep slope, its due east exposure and a clay-limestone soil particularly rich in iron, giving it an intense ochre hue. All of these vines are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics, with meticulous attention paid to each vine stock and harvests carried out entirely by hand.

    Vinification and ageing

The winemaking process begins with a gentle, extended pneumatic pressing, followed by a day of settling. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out entirely in oak barrels. The wine then benefits from ageing on lees for around ten months in barrels, before being transferred to stainless steel tanks for a further six-month period on fine lees. A light fining and gentle filtration may be performed prior to bottling if deemed necessary.

    Grape variety
