100% Marsanne. L'Hermite and Murets blended together. Aged for 24 months in 100% new oak. Toasty, full and waxy with more spice than fruit at present. Powerful, lengthy and modern – a good expression of modern, rich, strong-arm Hermitage. (RH)

While no red Ex Voto was made in 2016, the 2016 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc is brilliant, offering classic, powerful notes of Asian spices, toasted bread, acacia flowers, and crushed rocks as well as tons of quince and stone fruit notes. This beauty is full-bodied, multi-dimensional, and already impossible to resist. It’s going to evolve for 20-25 years or more.

Maturity, freshness and minerality: the palate displays impressive breadth with controlled power and superb definition; let us praise the fine bitters on the palate, the length, the precision!

Very intense with excellent poise and aromas of spiced pear custard, as well as a gently chalky edge. The palate has a very smooth and leisurely, fleshy feel with a wealth of supple and succulent pear and melon flavors on offer. Drink or hold.

(90% Marsanne, 10% Roussanne, 37 hl/ha, Fr. 171.70) Powerful, velvety, sweet bouquet of dried pears, raisins, candied fruits, a delicate citrus touch, slate, pears, fresh herbs, lemon balm. Velvety, multi-layered, finely mineral palate with creamy fruit, diverse sweet aromatics, tightly woven structure, well-integrated acidity, and a long, dense, creamy finish with sweet afterflavors. A great food companion. 19/20 2022 - 2042

    Description

The richness and power of a white Ermitage wine signed E. Guigal

    The property

The E. Guigal Estate was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, took over in 1961. Today, the 3rd generation continues the legacy and values of this iconic family house of the Rhône Valley.

Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, the E. Guigal estate oversees a mosaic of vineyards located in numerous appellations that form a range of wines of impeccable quality.

Over the vintages, the E. Guigal house has experienced strong growth, notably becoming the owner in 1995 of the famous Château d’Ampuis, as well as several wine estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine and the Château de Nalys, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).

    The vineyard

Ex Voto by E. Guigal is a wine from the Rhône Valley produced from two steep plots whose old vines are aged from 50 to 90 years. The "Murets" plot extends over 1.6 hectares and its soils are composed of fluvio-glacial alluvium and pebbles. The small "Hermite" plot with an area of 0.2 hectares is located on a plateau of loess and sandy-clay loam.

    Vinification and aging

After the harvest, the grapes are vinified in new small oak barrels. This Ermitage wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentations.
