    Decanter

All the richness one wants in a Bâtard is supplied by Chartron’s 2024 wine from this grand cru. There are lush, ripe aromas of pear and melon with accents of butter, spice and linden flowers. The texture is silky and dense, but there is abundant freshness here to keep everything in balance. This vintage has more balance and elegance than some recent 'global warming' vintages. It is a wine of refinement that can enjoy a long life in the cellar. The grapes are from a small 0.12ha parcel on the Puligny side.

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 by Jean Chartron

    Tasting notes

    Colour
The colour reveals a pale golden-yellow hue, highlighted by greenish glints.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with citrus notes, such as lemon zest and lime, accompanied by touches of white flowers and a mineral thread.

    Palate
The palate stands out for its precision and salinity. It offers a beautiful texture, supported by firm acidity, and stretches into a long finish marked by citrus zest, mineral notes and subtle spicy touches.

    Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs perfectly with foie gras, shellfish such as lobster or langoustine, as well as firm-fleshed fish served with a beurre blanc sauce. It also pairs very well with poultry or veal in a creamy sauce, a white truffle risotto, or matured cheeses such as Comté.

    Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This wine has significant aging potential and can be enjoyed from 2032 through to around 2041.

The elegance and precision of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Jean Chartron

    The estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic figure of Burgundy, located in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet. For over 165 years, five generations have succeeded one another at the head of this vineyard, which today spans 14.5 hectares. The estate is currently run by Jean-Michel Chartron, who oversees winemaking, and his sister Anne-Laure Chartron, who supervises vineyard management. The estate is distinguished by its attachment to the prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Beaune and by an environmentally respectful approach, applying organic farming principles since 2004.

    The vineyard

The Bâtard-Montrachet plot cultivated by the estate covers an area of 0.3823 hectares. Located at the base of the slope, at an altitude ranging between 240 and 250 metres, the vines benefit from an east and south exposure. They have an average age of 75 years and are planted with a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. The soil consists of brown limestone, with a balanced proportion of clay and pebbles, offering optimal drainage while preserving the moisture needed for the growing cycle.

    The vintage

The year 2024 began with a particularly mild February, leading to early budbreak in the vines. This mild weather continued into March, before a sharp drop in temperatures in April brought episodes of frost. May then proved cool and very rainy, resulting in strong pressure from fungal diseases. Despite these climatic challenges, the harvest yielded berries offering juices of great precision.

    Winemaking and aging

The winemaking of this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 begins with direct filling into oak barrels right after pressing. Fermentation and aging take place in Burgundian barrels, comprising 40% new oak and 60% barrels that have already held one to three vintages. The wine then rests on its fine lees for 14 months, before undergoing fining and being bottled.

    Grape variety

    100% Chardonnay.
