Jean Chartron : Montrachet Grand cru 2022

Chartron's Montrachet is an eminently luxurious, almost decadent wine with ripe apple, apricot and quince aromas touched with honey, hazelnut, flowers, and spice. The texture is dense, creamy, and powerful – there is perhaps more richness but less energy than the Chevalier. The grapes are sourced from the Chassagne side of the appellation. This wine will open nicely five to seven years after the vintage and should drink well for 20 years beyond that.

The 2022 Montrachet Grand Cru is another wine from Jean-Chartron that embarrasses me by completely surpassing all expectations from barrel. It was the standout of four Montrachets poured blind. It has a well-defined bouquet, a mixture of white and yellow fruit, egg whites, white flowers and sea cave. The palate is beautifully poised with a perfectly tuned thread of acidity. It builds gracefully in the mouth, gaining precision all the time towards a magnificent, thrilling mineral-driven finish with incredible tension and vitality. If you are lucky enough to own this, then give it three or four years in bottle…there is so much more to come. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
