The estate

The name of Château Chasse-Spleen evokes Charles Baudelaire, poet of Les Fleurs du Mal who, falling under the spell of wine, would have recognised their power to banish melancholy. Located in the heart of the Médoc, the Château Chasse-Spleen vineyard stretches over 90 hectares. L'Héritage de Chasse-Spleen is the estate's second wine.

The vineyard

Located in the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation, the 20 hectares of vines dedicated to the production of this Héritage de Chasse-Spleen 2021 are planted on sandy-gravel soils, resting on clay-limestone subsoils. The vines are aged between 5 and 35 years old.

The vintage

A particularly wet and mild winter came before a warm March, which advanced an early budburst in the vineyard. April was marked by severe frosts which impacted the vineyard. Flowering took place under rainy conditions, and was more even on the merlot vines than those of cabernet sauvignon. A seasonal summer saw periodic rains during the harvest, at full ripeness of the grapes.

Winemaking and ageing

Rigorously sorted, the grapes were vinified in thermoregulated stainless steel and cement vats. The wine was then aged in wooden barrels (of which 5% were of new wood).

Cabernet sauvignon (40%)
Cabernet franc (8%)
Petit verdot (2%).

Tasting

Colour
The colour unveils a shining garnet red.

Nose
Complex and expressive, the nose releases scents of blackcurrant blossom and split wood. During aeration, the bouquet unveils delightful raspberry and black pepper notes.

Palate
A bold attack precedes a palate with a lively acidity which mingles perfectly with a variety of scents. The enduring finish entices with its aromatic richness.
