    Decanter

From Bordeaux varietals growing in the ‘golden shell’, a sun trap in Chianti Classico's Panzano, this take on the Médoc's finest is a bonanza of spicy red and black berries supported by chocolatey depth and grippy tannins. Incredibly fresh and lifted, the poised mid-palate sees the emergence of some herbal touches and structural acidity, leading to a long, bright yet still quite sturdy finish.

A Tuscan Wine Imbued with Character and Elegance

    The Estate

An estate since 1400, La Massa was acquired in 1992 by Gian Paolo Motta, passionate about the finest Bordeaux crus, with the ambition of making the domaine an essential reference among Italy’s greatest wines. Located in Panzano, near the Conca d'Oro, La Massa produces IGT Toscana wines recognized for their quality and great finesse.

    The Vineyard

The Giorgio Primo is an IGT Toscana wine from vineyards located in Panzano in Chianti, in the province of Florence. The vines thrive on soils composed of mudstone and marl limestone, an exceptional terroir that gives the wine its minerality and complexity. This privileged geographical location benefits from an ideal microclimate for the ripening of international grape varieties.

    The Vintage

The year 2021 in Tuscany began with a mild, dry winter, followed by an early bud break. A late frost event caused some damage to the young shoots. Spring was characterized by abundant rainfall and a gradual rise in temperatures until mid-June. The hot, dry summer that followed proved ideal for vine growth and grape development, allowing for high polyphenolic richness at harvest. Merlot was harvested at the end of September, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were picked in mid-October.

    Winemaking and Aging

The Giorgio Primo 2021 benefited from eighteen months of aging in French barrels, 50 % of which were new wood. After this aging phase, the wine rested in stainless steel tanks before being bottled in July 2024.

    Grape Varieties

    Cabernet Sauvignon (60 %), Merlot (35 %), Petit Verdot (5 %).
