The indulgent and elegant expression of a Pauillac second wine
The estate
Located at the heart of the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste took its current form in 1855, although it was originally built in the 16th century. The estate was shaped by Raymond Dupin, who owned it from 1930 to 1978. He then handed it over to the Borie family in 1978, who have since carried out numerous renovations. Today, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of the most representative crus of the Pauillac appellation.
The vineyard
The plots dedicated to this Second Wine of the estate are located west of the château's park, in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, surrounded by prestigious classified growths. Replanted starting in 1978, this vineyard, with an average age of over 30 years, lies on sandy-gravelly soils composed of fine alluvium, with a planting density of 7,000 vines per hectare. Vineyard work is focused on agroecology: natural grass cover, the planting of hedges and trees since 2015, and winter grazing by a flock of sheep.
The label of this 2025 vintage bears the mention "Vignes du Parc," referring to the vineyard over 30 years old from which this cuvée originates.
The vintage
The 2025 year was marked by remarkable earliness. After a mild and relatively dry winter, budburst occurred uniformly from late March. Spring, spared from humidity, ensured excellent sanitary conditions and allowed for ideal flowering beginning on May 19. The summer proved hot and dry, leading to rapid veraison on July 15, with the entire vineyard fully colored by the end of the month. Some welcome rainfall from August 29 onward shifted the end of the season before manual harvesting took place from September 4 to 18. The yield reached 30 hl/ha.
Vinification and aging
The making of this Lacoste-Borie begins with exclusively manual harvesting, followed by vinification in vats suited to each plot to favor gentle extractions. Macerations are long, ranging from 18 to 21 days depending on the lot. The wine is then aged for 14 months in a dedicated cellar, in French oak barrels.
Grape varieties
The blend is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Merlot (24%), and Cabernet Franc (8%). The presence of the latter brings beautiful freshness, vibrant fruit, and great elegance.
