Le Vieux Donjon : Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020

After adoring the 2019 version of this wine, I confess to being somewhat perplexed by the showing of Vieux Donjon's 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc. A 50-50 blend of Clairette and Roussanne traditionally made and matured in stainless steel, I thought I might have detected hints of pencil shavings and/or crushed stone accenting the pineapple and pear fruit. It's medium-bodied and crisp, with some citrus-pith notes on the finish.

Very bright and pure in style, offering a mix of lemon curd, white peach, mirabelle plum and honeysuckle flavors that race along, with quinine and acacia notes gilding the finish. Drink now through 2026. 190 cases made, 56 cases imported.

Light golden yellow, silver reflections. Soft notes of meadow herbs, melon and orange zest, hints of white flowers, biscuit and almonds. Elegant, full-bodied, fine fruit expression, a touch of acacia, balanced, has freshness and length, already easy to drink.

The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc is juicy and lively, with pretty apple blossom and citrus fruit as well as hints of spice and minerality. It's medium-bodied, juicy, and ready to go, yet should also have 4-5 years of longevity if you're so inclined.

A precise palette marked by aniseed notes. The nose is fresh, with hints of wisteria and white flowers. The palate reveals a lovely harmony, balancing volume and sapidity. Fine tension and refreshing vibrancy animate this wine.
