    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Saint-Joseph "Anges" 2022 by Louis Chèze

    Tasting

    Color
The color reveals a deep, clear ruby red hue.

    Nose
Remarkably complex, the nose exudes aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrant and blueberry, enhanced by delicate floral notes of violet. The whole is underscored by touches of sweet spices, white pepper and subtle exotic nuances finely integrated through barrel aging.

    Palate
The attack is direct and light, opening onto a palate full of energy and generosity. The tannic structure proves harmonious and elegant, leading to a lingering finish marked by notes of blueberry and myrrh.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with small game in sauce, such as quail or venison, as well as with braised red meats or aged duck. It will also beautifully complement flavorful cheeses, particularly those from alpine regions with herbaceous notes.

    Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience of the "Anges" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, decanting it two to four hours in advance while it is still young. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to evolve favorably in the cellar until around 2037.

    Other characteristics

The alcohol content of this wine is 13%.

The elegance and finesse of a great Saint-Joseph wine

    The estate

Founded in 1978 in Limony, at the heart of the Rhône Valley, the Louis Chèze estate grew from a modest single hectare of family vines. Today, at the head of a vineyard spanning 35 to 45 hectares, Louis Chèze, supported by his sons Camille and Benoît, embodies the excellence of the region. A staunch advocate of sustainable viticulture and a tailored, plot-by-plot approach, the estate strives to express the very essence of its terroirs. Independence, curiosity and respect for the environment are the guiding principles of this estate, which has become an essential reference.

    The vineyard

The "Anges" cuvée comes from a two-hectare plot located on the hillsides of Limony, at around 300 meters in altitude, within the Saint-Joseph appellation. Facing south and southeast, the old Syrah vines, averaging around fifty years of age, thrive on shallow soils composed of granite and dark migmatite. This rocky, well-drained terroir, combined with naturally low yields, promotes optimal concentration in the berries.

    The vintage

2022 offered ideal weather conditions in the region, allowing for perfect phenolic ripeness without excessive heat stress. This balanced growing cycle encouraged the development of grapes brimming with fruit and energy, while preserving all their natural elegance.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates. After careful sorting on a vibrating table and complete destemming, the berries are lightly crushed before being transferred into vats by gravity. Fermentation of the "Anges" 2022 takes place in small temperature-controlled tanks with extended maceration. Malolactic fermentation and aging then take place exclusively in new French oak barrels for approximately 22 months. The wine is bottled in a single batch, without prior filtration.

    Grape variety

    100% Syrah.
