Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "Les Boudots" Famille Gagey 2020 by Louis Jadot
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a deep red colour, with a sustained ruby hue tending towards subtle garnet reflections.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, unveiling intense aromas of black and red fruits such as blackberry, blackcurrant, raspberry and black cherry. This fruity framework is enriched by delicate floral notes of rose and violet, punctuated by spicy nuances of pepper, liquorice and sweet spices.
Palate
The attack is ample and generous, leading into a beautifully concentrated mid-palate. The tannins, firm yet velvety, provide an assertive structure while retaining plenty of energy and freshness. The finish stretches out at length on fruity and spicy flavours, enhanced by a hint of minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine from France pairs perfectly with characterful red meats, such as a fine rib of beef, a tournedos or a roast. It also accompanies refined poultry dishes beautifully, such as duck with cherries, sweet-and-savoury inspired dishes, as well as soft cheeses with washed rinds.

The estate
Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is an emblematic figure of Burgundy. Based in Beaune, it draws on a rich family heritage that began in the 1820s. The House now enjoys international renown thanks to an extensive vineyard of around 130 hectares. Although it has belonged to the American group Kobrand since 1985, the estate retains operational management under the Gagey family. Deeply committed to responsible viticulture, it strives to convey the identity of each Burgundian terroir with precision and authenticity.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Les Boudots climat, ideally located in the north of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, on the border with Vosne-Romanée. The vines lie on an east-facing slope, ensuring gentle morning sunshine and harmonious ripening. The very stony soil promotes excellent drainage and naturally regulates heat. The estate employs environmentally friendly viticultural methods, limiting chemical inputs and favouring mechanical soil work to preserve the biodiversity and vitality of the terroir.
The vintage
The 2020 year stood out for its warm and sunny weather. These clement climatic conditions favoured a swift and optimal ripening of the berries. This sun-drenched vintage thus made it possible to harvest healthy and particularly concentrated grapes, while preserving beautiful consistency during the harvest.
Winemaking and aging
For the creation of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "Les Boudots" Famille Gagey 2020, the harvest is carried out by hand with rigorous sorting of the berries. Fermentation takes place in vats, accompanied by measured punching down and pumping over to extract the appropriate tannic structure. The wine then benefits from ageing in oak barrels, incorporating a moderate proportion of new wood, in order to support the substance without masking the natural expression of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
