Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Mercurey 1er Cru "Sazenay" 2024 by Louis Jadot
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a straw-yellow hue, enhanced by delicate golden highlights.
Nose
The nose reveals aromas of white fruits such as apple and pear, along with hints of peach. It then opens onto delicate floral notes, complemented by a buttery and subtly toasted dimension stemming from its time in oak.
Palate
Broad and enveloping, the palate offers a creamy texture and a silky mouthfeel. A beautifully integrated acidity maintains the freshness throughout, leading to a lingering finish with fruity, buttery and toasted almond accents.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs ideally with cooked fish such as salmon or trout, as well as poultry served in a creamy mushroom sauce. It also accompanies seafood gratins beautifully, or soft-rind cheeses such as brie and camembert.
Serving and cellaring
The Mercurey 1er Cru "Sazenay" 2024 can be enjoyed relatively young, while also offering a cellaring potential of several years.
The broad and fruity expression of a Premier Cru from the Côte Chalonnaise
The estate
Officially founded in 1859 in Beaune, Maison Louis Jadot is an institution of Burgundy. Overseeing a vineyard of around 280 hectares, it showcases the richness of the region's terroirs. Owned by the American Kopf family since 1985, the operational management remains in the hands of the Burgundian Gagey family, represented by Pierre-Henry and Thibault Gagey. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the house combines the scope of a historic négociant with a precise reading of each climat.
The vineyard
Located in the Côte Chalonnaise, the climat classified as Premier Cru Sazenay flourishes within the Mercurey appellation. This terroir is distinguished by its deep clay-limestone soils and its continental climate. All of the estate's vines have held Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) level 3 certification since 2019. Vineyard management incorporates practices that respect biodiversity, such as grass cover between the rows, the limitation of chemical herbicides and the use of sexual confusion to protect the vines.
Winemaking and aging
The production of the Mercurey 1er Cru "Sazenay" 2024 follows Burgundian tradition. Fermentations take place in French oak barrels, accompanied by moderate bâtonnage in order to preserve all the freshness of the wine. Aging then continues in these same barrels, with a controlled proportion of new oak, over a period of around twelve months to enhance the aromatic complexity without masking the identity of the terroir.
