    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Monthélie Village "Sous Roches" Domaine Louis Jadot 2023

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a beautiful ruby hue, deep and vibrant in its youth.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet displays lovely complexity, blending aromas of small red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant. Delicate floral notes of violet and peony intertwine with subtle spicy touches.

    Palate
On the palate, this red wine seduces with a texture that is both firm and velvety. The structure rests on fine, chalky tannins, offering good fruity concentration underpinned by refreshing acidity. The whole is elegant and stretches towards a persistent finish with mineral accents.

    Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats such as roast poultry, braised lamb or rabbit. It also accompanies roasted offal such as sweetbreads, grilled sausages or a meat pie very well.

    Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate the Monthélie Village "Sous Roches" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 15°C, after light decanting if necessary. This wine can be enjoyed now but has the necessary structure to evolve in the cellar until approximately 2033.

    The estate

Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy. Based in Beaune, it extends across a vast vineyard of approximately 280 hectares spread over the most prestigious terroirs of the region. Owned by the American Kopf family since 1985, the estate is today chaired by Thomas Seiter. Combining its historic role as a négociant with that of a major grower-owner, Louis Jadot stands out for its strong environmental commitment, crowned by the achievement of organic certification for its estates in 2024.

    The vineyard

The "Sous Roches" plot, acquired in 2010, extends over 1.16 hectares within the Monthélie appellation, nestled between Volnay and Meursault. Facing south and south-east, the vines flourish at an altitude ranging between 230 and 370 metres. The terroir consists of a subsoil of stony Bathonian limestone, covered with red clay and marl. The vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, without synthetic products, with soil work carried out by tractor or horse to preserve biodiversity.

    The vintage

The 2023 vintage stands out for its remarkable generosity in the vines, offering abundant yields after several years marked by climatic hazards. The ripening conditions allowed for grapes with a lovely balance, combining good concentration with fully achieved maturity.

    Vinification and ageing

For the crafting of the Monthélie Village "Sous Roches" 2023, the abundant harvest allowed a rigorous selection of the best berries. Vinification is carried out with precision, carefully controlling fermentation temperatures and extraction, in order to capture all the complexity of the fruit without excess, thereby preserving the characteristic finesse of the terroir.
