    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Monthélie Village "Sous Roches" Domaine Louis Jadot 2024

    Tasting notes

    Appearance

The wine reveals a ruby hue, marked by a relative paleness typical of this singular climatic year.

    Nose

The nose unveils aromas of small red and black fruits, such as cherry and blackcurrant, subtly accompanied by floral notes reminiscent of violet and peony.

    Palate

On the palate, this wine expresses great finesse with high acidity that brings a wealth of freshness. The structure relies on delicate and discreet tannins, offering an elegant rather than concentrated profile.

    Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs perfectly with aged cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère, as well as soft cheeses. It is an ideal companion for a charcuterie board, a filet mignon, a herb-roasted chicken or mushroom-based dishes such as a risotto. It is advisable to avoid overly fatty meats or very spicy dishes that would mask its delicacy.

    Serving and cellaring

Due to the climatic conditions of the year, this Monthélie Village "Sous Roches" Dom. Louis Jadot 2024 is to be enjoyed in its youth and drunk relatively quickly.

The Burgundian elegance of Maison Louis Jadot

    The estate

Officially founded in 1859 and based in Beaune, Maison Louis Jadot is a historic figure of Burgundy. The estate covers approximately 213 hectares spread across the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais and the Beaujolais. Combining a négociant activity with the production from its own vines, the property stands out for its comprehensive coverage of the Burgundian terroirs. Today led by Thomas Seiter, who took over the presidency in 2023, the house reached a major milestone by obtaining organic certification for its vineyards in 2024.

    The vineyard

The Monthélie vineyard is located in the Côte de Beaune, between the villages of Volnay and Meursault. The vines benefit from a south to south-east exposure, at an altitude ranging from 230 to 370 metres. The terroir rests on Jurassic limestone soils covered with red clay, marl and clay-limestone colluvium. The soil composition, rich in gravel, gives the grapes a beautiful minerality.

    The vintage

The 2024 vintage proved particularly demanding, marked by high humidity, cool temperatures and low sunshine. These conditions favoured the development of mildew, severely impacting yields. However, the Côte de Beaune showed greater resilience in the face of these climatic challenges. A slight improvement in the weather at the end of August allowed the healthy berries to complete their ripening, producing juices with a lovely freshness.

    Winemaking and aging

For this Monthélie Village "Sous Roches" Dom. Louis Jadot 2024, the house philosophy favours a low-intervention approach. Fermentations are carried out mainly with indigenous yeasts, with long macerations and moderate control of maximum temperatures. Ageing is done with a very measured use of new oak in order to preserve the natural expression of the fruit and the terroir.
