The refined expression of the Latricières-Chambertin terroir by Louis Latour
The estate
Officially founded in 1797 and historically established in Aloxe-Corton in Burgundy, the Louis Latour House is a true institution. This independent family estate spans approximately 48 hectares, including 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru, representing the largest concentration of these exceptional terroirs in the region. Today led by Florent Latour, the property perpetuates ancestral expertise while committing to sustainable viticulture. This prestigious brand, also operating as a négociant-éleveur, shines around the world thanks to its commitment to quality.
The vineyard
The Latricières-Chambertin plot extends over 7.4 hectares south of the famous Chambertin, in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. Cultivated since 1508, the vines, on average 40 years old, thrive on shallow, stony soil. The subsoil consists of a limestone base mixed with chalk, gravel and clay. Benefiting from a cooler microclimate thanks to the proximity of the forest, this gently sloping terroir delivers controlled yields of around 35 hl/ha. The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand.
The vintage
The 2012 vintage stood out for its moderate weather conditions in Burgundy. Spared from excessive heat and major weather disturbances, the growing cycle unfolded under a mild climate. This temperate environment allowed the grapes to reach a measured and consistent ripeness throughout the season.
Vinification and ageing
The crafting of the Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2012 begins with a short traditional fermentation in open vats. After a fully completed malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 10 to 12 months. This maturation takes place in new French oak barrels with a medium toast, meticulously crafted by the house's own cooperage.
Grape variety
This cuvée is produced from 100% Pinot Noir.
