    Vinous

    Nicolas Greinacher

Ripe blackberry, licorice and leafy tones introduce the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers. Finely poised white pepper adds another layer. Midweight and dynamic, the straightforward 2023 comes off the palate with a zesty slice of grapefruit.

The 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers has slightly riper aromatics of black raspberries, pepper, wildflowers, and spice that carry to a medium-bodied Syrah that's beautifully balanced, with fine tannins and outstanding length. This cuvée comes from 100% Syrah and spent 12 months in 90% concrete tanks and 10% used puncheons.

    Le Figaro Vin

Powerful and complex, the nose opens with aromas of crushed raspberry and ripe wild strawberry, layered with fresh garrigue notes reminiscent of early morning. Elegant on the palate, a vibrant acidity carries the fruit and spice flavors. Red berries return, dusted with black pepper and fresh notes evocative of turmeric. The tense, mineral-driven finish leaves the mouth watering.

    Kristen Bieler

Round and mouthfilling yet not heavy, this offers a mix of meaty notes and red fruit flanked by dusty red earth and bacon lard. The tannins are finely polished, for a ripe, chewy profile, with a subtle tug of tar, which adds to the brooding density. Very solid. Drink now through 2033. 200 cases imported.

    Decanter

Fans of Rhône Syrah will no doubt be familiar with this textbook red. Mixed vintage conditions have given this expression a light touch with more elegance than recent years, it showcases classic notes of lifted violet and dried herbs opening into spiced dark plum and grilled meat flavours, all tied together with the silkiest tannins.

The authentic expression of a great terroir from the Rhône Valley by M. Chapoutier

    The estate

Founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, the House of M. Chapoutier is an emblematic institution of the Rhône Valley. Now led by Michel Chapoutier, the estate has distinguished itself through its pioneering approach to biodynamic viticulture and its deep respect for terroir. The estate is also recognised for its commitment to inclusion, illustrated by the addition of braille lettering on all its labels since 1996. With a presence across the entire range of Rhône appellations, this historic producer crafts cuvées that accurately and authentically express the unique character of each plot.

    The vineyard

The vines behind this cuvée thrive in the southern part of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, across the villages of Mercurol, Pont-de-l'Isère and Beaumont-Monteux. South-facing, this terroir is characterised by alluvial soils made up of a mix of clay, pebbles and gravel. The vineyard is farmed organically, with no use of herbicides whatsoever. The soils are worked through traditional ploughing, allowing the vines to develop deep root systems and better withstand climatic variations.

    Winemaking and aging

Following manual and mechanical harvesting carried out with care for the berries, the grapes are destemmed. The Les Meysonniers 2023 cuvée is vinified in concrete vats using exclusively indigenous yeasts. Traditional punching down and pumping over are carried out during a maceration period of three to four weeks to optimally extract colour and tannins. Aging spans approximately twelve months, with 90% taking place in unlined concrete vats to preserve aromatic purity, and 10% in barrels.
