    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Iskra Riserva 2020 by Masciarelli

    Tasting

    Appearance
This wine reveals a clear robe of a beautiful ruby red hue, enhanced by delicate violet reflections.

    Nose
The bouquet proves particularly intense and highly complex, releasing aromas of blackberry, plum and blueberry, all elevated by subtle spicy notes.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted meats, slow-cooked dishes in sauce, as well as rich and spicy recipes.

    Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to serve this Italian red wine at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Although it is already ready to be enjoyed, it has excellent cellaring potential.

The elegance of a great Montepulciano d'Abruzzo by Masciarelli

    The estate
Founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, the estate has become a true emblematic brand of the Abruzzo region in Italy. The estate covers 320 hectares, including 273 hectares of vineyards spread across the four provinces of the region. A pioneer of quality viticulture in this area, the estate is today brilliantly led by Marina Cvetić and her daughter Miriam Lee. They perpetuate the family legacy by showcasing local terroirs and producing wines recognised internationally.

    The vineyard
The grapes used to craft this cuvée come from 20-year-old vines located in Controguerra, in the province of Teramo. This terroir dedicated to the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo appellation rises to 200 metres in altitude and benefits from an ideal south-east exposure. The vines are trained using the Guyot method on soils composed of clay and sand. The planting density is 6,500 vines per hectare, with controlled yields of around 80 quintals per hectare. The first vintage of this cuvée was produced in 2003.

    Winemaking and aging
The harvest takes place by hand at the end of October, with grapes collected in crates. Fermentation is carried out at the production site in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks between 28 and 30°C, accompanied by a long skin maceration. This Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2020 is then aged for 12 months in first-use French oak barrels, before being finished with bottle ageing.
