Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Aleksé 15 Years Old 2010 by Michel Couvreur
Tasting
Nose
Remarkably intense, the initial aromatic impression reveals notes of very ripe red fruits, marked by cherry and raisin. With aeration, a gourmand dimension emerges, with caramel, lightly toasted honey, and roasted nuts such as hazelnut and almond. Over time, subtle hints of sweet spices, blond tobacco, and fine leather complete this rich complexity.
Palate
The attack offers an extremely delicate texture that contrasts with the power of the nose. Candied fruits dominate the palate, with generous flavors of dates, prunes, and raisins, enhanced by sweet spices such as cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, delivering a gentle warmth. The finish is remarkably persistent and silky, marked by an elegant tannic structure, notes of honey, and a touch of dry wood.
Pairings and tasting moments
This contemplative spirit is best enjoyed in a calm setting, served between 64 and 68°F in a Glencairn-style glass. It pairs beautifully with aged cheeses such as mature Comté, or a platter of fine cured meats with peppery and smoky profiles. Roasted nuts or a simple buttery pastry also complement it wonderfully. It is advisable to avoid overly chocolatey desserts in order to preserve its delicacy.
Mixology
As this is a highly prestigious and extremely rare cuvée, it is strongly recommended to enjoy this spirit neat, without any additions, in order to fully appreciate its aromatic depth.
A highly complex Scotch whisky matured in Burgundy by Michel Couvreur
The Michel Couvreur House: The art of maturation in Burgundy
Officially founded in 1978, the Michel Couvreur house embodies a revolutionary philosophy in the world of Whisky: the belief that 90% of a spirit’s quality comes from its cask maturation. Located in Bouze-lès-Beaune in Burgundy, the estate features exceptional underground cellars carved into limestone rock, offering constant humidity ideal for aging. Today, the house is led by Cyril Deschamps and his wife Alexandra Couvreur-Deschamps, daughter of the founder, who carry on this family legacy with rigor. Supported by cellar master Jean-Arnaud Frantzen, they select the finest sherry and port casks to refine exceptional distillates, always favoring artisanal excellence over industrial volumes.
Aleksé 15 Years Old 2010: The excellence of maturation in Colheita casks
The Aleksé 15 Years Old 2010 is a singular expression that perfectly illustrates the house’s expertise in maturation. This single malt whisky was distilled in Scotland before traveling to the cellars of Burgundy, where it underwent a patient and complete fifteen-year maturation.
The choice of cask is essential: aging took place exclusively in rare Colheita Port casks. These vintage casks, sourced from a single Portuguese harvest, impart distinctive oxidative notes and incomparable fruity richness to this Scotch whisky. Bottled in 2026 at its natural strength of 50%, this spirit has undergone no reduction, allowing the alcohol to integrate harmoniously thanks to slow evaporation in the humid underground cellars.
A true collector’s gem, this edition is presented in an elegant 50-centiliter format, carefully nestled in a wooden case. Every step, from corking to waxing and labeling, is carried out by hand, confirming the status of this exceptional cuvée as a true work of craftsmanship.
