The property
An essential reference for the great wines of the Northern Rhône Valley, the Paul Jaboulet Aîné House was founded in 1834 in Tain l'Hermitage. Since 2006, it has been led by Caroline Frey, a talented oenologist and winemaker, who brings to this illustrious house a demand for precision and respect for the terroir. The estate now oversees a vineyard of 125 hectares spread over the most beautiful appellations of the region: Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Châteauneuf-du-Pape or even Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
The vineyard
The Domaine des Pierrelles is a confidential cuvée from a 1.5 hectare plot located in the heart of the historic vineyard of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. The vines, aged 20 to 30 years, flourish on a soil of decomposing mica schists, conducive to the finest expression of Syrah.
Vinification & aging
The grapes are hand-harvested, then sorted directly in the plot. The maceration, lasting about four weeks, favors gentle extractions to preserve the finesse of the tannins. Aging is carried out in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, adding complexity and structure to the wine without masking the expression of the fruit.
Blend
The Domaine des Pierrelles 2022 is made exclusively from Syrah.
