    Description

Tasting Notes and Serving Tips for La Maison Bleue 2023 from Paul Jaboulet-Aîné

    Tasting

With a beautiful ruby-red color, this cuvée combines a complex nose (coffee, light tobacco, blueberry, blackcurrant) with a powerful palate and velvety tannins.

    Serving

Ideally serve between 16°C and 18°C.

A full-bodied, beautifully structured red wine from the Rhône Valley

    The estate

A leading reference among the great wines of the Northern Rhône, Paul Jaboulet-Aîné was founded in 1834 in Tain l’Hermitage. Today led by oenologist and winegrower Caroline Frey (Frey family, owners since 2006), the House manages around 125 hectares across prestigious appellations: Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. The Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage vineyards have been farmed biodynamically since 2017.

    The vineyard

La Maison Bleue 2022 is a Rhône Valley wine from a 13-hectare vineyard, planted to the east of the famous hill. The vines, 40 to 60 years old, drive their roots deep into rich soils with little stone, on moderate slopes.

This house with blue shutters, a place of work and conviviality among winegrowers, is intimately linked to the history of the estate. Located at the heart of the Hermitage vineyard, it is still used today to dry the plants intended for biodynamic preparations, as well as for the production of straw wine.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes are harvested by hand, with sorting carried out directly in the vineyard. Total destemming (100%). Maceration lasts around three weeks, with daily pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation is followed by 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, 15% of which are new.

    Grape variety

    100% Syrah.
