Smoky on the nose, fruity on the palate, light-bodied, slightly harsh tannins, short finish with spice and red fruit.

Strawberries, cherries, currants, and flowers on the nose are followed by a forward, early-drinking, light-to-medium-bodied wine filled with red plums that is already charming in the glass. The wine is produced from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 14% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. Drink from 2027-2034. 88-90 pts

Bright raspberry and blackberry fruits, firm and finely-boned if a touch austere, no new oak for ageing. Harvest 24 September to 10 October, 26hl/h yield, half of the fabulous 2023 vintage. 3.67 pH.

Deep, intense, purplish colour. A very aromatic nose, refined, subtle and vanilla-scented. Delicate on the attack, fragrant through the mid-palate, with a texture that is both supple and sleek, the wine becomes juicy on the finish, carried by fine tannins. Very good and true to its style. Blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 14% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 13% - pH: 3.67 – IPT: 56.

    Description

A Second Wine from Saint-Julien that is both fresh and expressive

    The property
Ranked Second Cru of the Médoc in 1855, the Château Léoville Poyferré has its origins in the early 17th century. Located on the left bank of Bordeaux, in the heart of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, this emblematic estate is rigorously and passionately managed by the Cuvelier family. Bordered by famous neighbors such as Pichon Baron and Léoville Las Cases, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir made up of Garonne gravel soils, which are not very fertile but perfectly suited to quality viticulture. The parcel-by-parcel vinifications, followed by the renowned oenologist Michel Rolland, aim to subtly reveal the identity of each grape variety and each plot. The wines from the estate seduce with their harmony, their aromatic depth and their controlled power.

    The vineyard
This Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré, Second Wine from this Saint-Julien estate, comes from a 60-hectare vineyard. The vines, with an average age of 44 years, take root in Mindel gravel terraces resting on a subsoil mixing clay and sand, providing the vine with balance and complexity.

    Vinification and aging
Harvested by hand, the grapes undergo a double sorting, first by hand and then by optical sorting berry by berry. The vinification, carried out parcel by parcel, takes place in stainless steel vats. The alcoholic fermentation is initiated with selected yeasts. The wine is then aged for 18 months in two-wine barrels, guaranteeing discreet and elegant woodiness.

    Blend
The Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré 2024 is composed of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot, 18% cabernet franc and 14% petit verdot.
