    Kristen Bieler

There’s classic Viognier character on display in this white—beautiful floral perfume, lychee, star anise and fresh apricot—with remarkable purity and vividness. Salty, lime-edged acidity and a quinine note course alongside crushed mineral hints, driving tension and energy. Ends with a kiss of salted buttercream on the well-cut finish. Drink now through 2031. 850 cases made, 60 cases imported.

    Decanter

Floral and waxy with spicy notes of quince, lychee and vanilla on the nose. Violets, almonds and white blossom notes on the palate. Balanced freshness with good weight on a lengthy finish.

Very delicate and refined, with pure fruit (apricot) and floral aromas, medium concentration but brightness, and a lovely saline balance on the finish.

    Description

A fine and delicious Condrieu by Pierre-Jean Villa

    The estate

Passionate about wine, Pierre-Jean Villa began his career by marketing Burgundy wines and then, from 1992, managed the production and marketing of major Burgundy estates such as Mommessin and Clos de Tart. In 2003 he joined the Vins de Vienne estate in the Rhône Valley, a venture launched in 1996 by Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard and François Villard.
In 2009, Pierre-Jean Villa created his own estate in the heart of his native town, Chavanay, on the steep terraces of Saint-Joseph and Condrieu with the ambition of producing great wines authentically and rightly expressing the richness of these terroirs as well as the winegrower's ethics.
Coming from a vineyard cultivated according to the principles of biological agriculture, the wines produced by Pierre-Jean Villa, "one of the most talented wine producers of his generation" according to Bettane & Desseauve, are known for their freshness, their delicious taste, their finesse and their extreme precision.

    The vineyard

The vineyard covers a total area of 17 hectares on either side of the Rhône Valley, in the benchmark appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and the hillsides of Seyssuel. The vines are 30 years old on average.

    The wine

Once, the "hanging gardens" served as a vegetable plot; they were on the terraces of the estate. In that south-facing position, the vegetables ripened early. Today, the vines planted there benefit from these very special conditions that are the origin of this Condrieu from Pierre-Jean Villa.

    Ageing
Jardin Suspendu 2021 from Pierre-Jean Villa was bottled after being aged in demi-muids for 12 months.

    Blend
    100% Viognier.
