    Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 Pierre Vincent

    Tasting

    Color
The appearance displays a luminous golden hue.

    Nose
The bouquet is intense and complex, unfolding aromas of yellow plum, jasmine, and white truffle. Floral notes of white blossoms mingle with scents of acacia honey, fresh hazelnut, and lemon zest. The aromatic palette is enriched by nuances of juicy pear, crisp apple, and a characteristic chalky note.

    Palate
The attack is taut and mineral, carried by a remarkable energetic vibration. The palate reveals a chiseled and juicy substance of amazing freshness, dominated by a chalky and powdery-mineral impression. The structure, still slightly taut in its youth, shows a fine texture with citrus and floral accents. A slight touch of butter and fresh bread adds a welcome gourmet dimension. The finish is characterized by a pleasant bitterness and astounding length.

    Service and storage

The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 offers exceptional aging potential and can be tasted until around 2052.

A mineral and vibrant Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from Domaine Pierre Vincent

    The estate

Domaine Pierre Vincent was founded in 2023 following the acquisition of Domaine des Terres de Velle and extends over 7 hectares in the Côte de Beaune. Under the direction of Pierre Vincent, a recognized oenologist and former General Manager of Domaine Leflaive, as well as Éric Versini and Hervé Kratiroff, the estate produces 16 exclusive cuvées. Based in Auxey-Duresses, the estate cultivates vines with an average age of around fifty years in prestigious Burgundy appellations. Exacting viticulture with soil tillage, manual harvesting, and limited intervention, as well as low-intervention vinification, characterize this estate, which was immediately praised by critics.

    The vineyard

This Corton-Charlemagne comes from two different plots with a total area of 0.47 hectares. The first, "Le Charlemagne", extends over 0.28 hectares in Aloxe-Corton, with vines planted in 1966 facing southwest, located on the hilltop of the Corton hill, directly below the Bois de Corton. The second, "En Charlemagne", comprises 0.19 hectares in Pernand-Vergelesses, with vines planted in 1947 facing northwest, located at the end of a small valley historically linked to the Clos de Charlemagne. The soils show an ideal balance between limestone and clay. Viticulture favors plowing followed by green cover of the soils with very few additives.

    Winemaking and aging

Manual harvesting is accompanied by systematic sorting and careful selection of the harvest date based on ripeness monitoring. The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 benefits from a long and gentle pneumatic pressing. After settling overnight, alcoholic fermentation takes place partially in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then transferred to barrels for malolactic fermentation, with about 20% new wood. Aging in barrels lasts 12 months, followed by further maturation in stainless steel tanks for 6 months before bottling.

    Grape variety

This Burgundy wine comprises 100% Chardonnay.
