The structure and balance of a Brunello di Montalcino wine

    The property

Founded in 1989, Poggio di Sotto is a prestigious estate located in Montalcino in Tuscany. The estate stands out for its old sangiovese vines, some of which are over 50 years old. Recognized for its commitment to producing excellent wines, Poggio di Sotto embodies the noble spirit of sangiovese and has built a solid reputation in the world of great Italian wines.

    The vineyard

Resulting from a rigorous selection among the best barrels of the estate, this Tuscan wine is made from vines located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, facing the Val d'Orcia in the southeast quadrant of Montalcino. The plots, planted at 350 meters altitude, rest on rocky soils poor in nutrients, composed mainly of clay and limestone.

    Vinification and aging

The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a particularly rigorous selection, resulting in very low yields. Fermentation takes place in oak vats with very long macerations and frequent pumping over in the open air. Aging continues for 30 months in 30-hectoliter oak barrels. Bottling was carried out in November 2021.
