    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Rotem & Mounir Saouma 2023

The Elegance and Purity of a Red Wine from the Rhône Valley

    The Estate
Founded in 2009 in the Rhône Valley, the estate is run by Rotem & Mounir Saouma. Building on their success in Burgundy with the négociant house they established in 1999, the two enthusiasts extended their expertise to the south of France. The estate spans approximately 17 hectares across various appellations. The current owners, Rotem and Mounir Saouma, stand out for their unconventional approach, favouring extremely low yields, sustainable viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking in order to express the true essence of their terroirs.

    The Vineyard
Located in the Rhône Valley, the vineyard benefits from a mosaic of exceptional terroirs made up of sand, rolled pebbles, clay and limestone, all swept by the mistral. The vines, some of which are very old, are cultivated using sustainable methods, without chemical fertilisers, with an emphasis on soil management. This rigorous approach naturally results in low yields, ensuring optimal grape concentration.

    Winemaking and Ageing
The Rotem & Mounir Saouma 2023 is made from hand-picked grapes followed by an extended cold maceration. Fermentation takes place slowly and naturally, without punching down or pumping over, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit. After gentle pressing, the wine undergoes an exceptionally long ageing period on full lees, lasting anywhere from 18 to 60 months. This ageing takes place in a variety of vessels such as foudres, concrete eggs or barrels, with no racking whatsoever.

    Grape Varieties
    Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, Counoise.
