    Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 cuvée from Sandrone Luciano

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine displays a beautiful garnet hue with ruby highlights, reflecting the harmonious evolution of this Barolo after several years of aging.

    Nose
Initially restrained, the nose gradually opens with aeration to reveal aromas of red and black fruits, accompanied by sweet spices, subtle woody notes, and undergrowth.

    Palate
The palate reveals tannins that are still slightly firm, alongside a generous and complex fruity texture. Lively acidity brings freshness, while the ripe, well-defined tannins linger with length.

    Serving and cellaring
Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 18 and 20°C. Its aging potential extends to 2041 and beyond, with an optimal drinking window recommended between approximately 2029 and 2050.

An exceptional wine from Piedmont born of Sandrone Luciano’s Sibi et Paucis project

    The estate
Founded in 1978 when Luciano Sandrone crafted his first vintage in the family garage, this iconic Piedmont estate embodies the excellence of Barolo. Established at the foot of the Cannubi hill, the vineyard stretches across several prestigious terroirs of Barolo and Roero. Since Luciano’s passing in January 2023, his daughter Barbara and son Luca have carried on a unique philosophy blending tradition and modernity. With limited production and extremely low yields, Sandrone Luciano produces wines of remarkable elegance with outstanding aging potential.

    The vineyard
The Barolo Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 comes from a multi-parcel blend, notably including the prestigious sites of Vignane in the commune of Barolo and Villero in Castiglione Falletto. These vineyards are farmed with a nature-friendly approach, respecting the principles of sustainable viticulture. Each parcel contributes its own identity, reflecting the diversity of soils, altitudes, and exposures characteristic of the Barolo appellation.

    The vintage
The year 2015 in Piedmont was marked by seven weeks of intense heat from late June to August 14, followed by rainfall that ushered in a long, cool twelve-week ripening period. Viticultural practices adapted to warm years, notably late leaf thinning and free canopy management, helped prevent over-ripeness and bitterness from phenolic compounds. Harvest took place from October 4 to 17, producing generous, full-bodied wines with fine structure and well-ripened tannins.

    Winemaking and aging
The grapes destined for the Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2015 cuvée are harvested, vinified, and aged separately before being blended prior to bottling. Spontaneous fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in open-top steel tanks, accompanied by maceration. Malolactic fermentation and aging occur in 500-liter French oak barrels. The Sibi et Paucis project reflects Luciano Sandrone’s conviction that nebbiolo reveals its true nature after years of silent evolution. This cuvée benefited from an additional six years of aging in Luciano’s personal cellar after its initial release date in September 2019, for a total of 24 months in barrel followed by 120 months in bottle. The wine is filtered before bottling.

    Grape variety
    100% nebbiolo.
