Characteristics and tasting advice for the Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2008 from Sandrone Luciano
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays an intense garnet hue, enhanced by emerging orange highlights.
Nose
The bouquet reveals itself as ethereal and complex, unveiling aromas of red berry jam, brandied cherry, and dried apricot, accompanied by floral notes of faded roses. With aeration, secondary nuances of pepper, vanilla, dried mushrooms, leather, and white truffle enrich the aromatic palette.
Palate
On the palate, this Barolo charms with its complex structure and remarkable balance. Alcohol warmth brings fullness, while fresh acidity and velvety tannins lend a silky texture. The whole remains vibrant and reflects a beautiful youthful character.
Food and wine pairings
This Barolo pairs perfectly with braised red meats, game in sauce, truffle-based dishes, or aged cheeses such as Parmesan or Pecorino.
Serving and cellaring
The Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2008 can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve until around 2045. Decanting for one to two hours before serving will allow its full aromatic complexity to be expressed. Ideally serve between 16 and 18°C.
A Barolo from four exceptional terroirs of Piedmont
The estate
Founded in 1977 by Luciano Sandrone in Piedmont, Sandrone Luciano is an iconic Barolo estate that now spans 27 hectares of vineyards spread across Barolo, Serralunga, Castiglione Falletto, Novello, and Roero. Following the founder’s passing in 2024, the estate is now run by his brother Luca, his daughter Barbara, his wife Mariuccia, and his grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. A pioneer of modern Barolo since the 1980s, the estate stands out for its innovative approach to barrel aging and its “Sibi et Paucis” project, which keeps certain Barolos in the cellar for an additional ten years.
The vineyard
Le Vigne is a Piedmont wine sourced from four plots located in different areas of the Barolo DOCG appellation. The grapes come from Vignane in Barolo, Ceretta and Conterni in Monforte d'Alba, as well as Merli in Novello. This mosaic of terroirs combines power, aromatic precision, and fruit richness, offering a complete and harmonious expression of nebbiolo.
The vintage
The 2008 vintage is characterized by a classic style, reminiscent of the great Barolos of the 1970s. A rainy spring preceded a stable summer marked by a slow, cool growing cycle without excessive heat. Harvests took place from October 11 to 24, allowing grapes of optimal ripeness and great freshness to be picked.
Winemaking and aging
Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2008 was vinified following a traditional approach with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts in open stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation and aging took place in 500-liter French oak casks. This “Sibi et Paucis” cuvée benefited from an additional 6 years of bottle aging after its initial release in September 2012, under optimal cellar conditions at the estate.
Grape variety
100% nebbiolo.
