A Brunello di Montalcino from Scopone Combining Elegance and Tradition

    The Estate

Nestled between Montalcino and the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, Scopone flourishes on an exceptional 12-hectare terroir at the heart of the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its exposure facing Mount Amiata, the richness of its galestro and alberese soils, and its ideal climate all create the perfect conditions for outstanding viticulture.

    The Vintage

A mild winter encouraged early budbreak. A wet spring, with repeated rainfall through to April, gave way to a dry summer. Rain during the last week of August allowed the grapes to reach perfect phenolic ripeness. Harvest took place from mid-September to early October.

    Winemaking and Ageing

For the Brunello di Montalcino 2020, the grapes are hand-harvested, with an initial selection in the vineyard followed by destemming and a second selection on the sorting table. Fermentation takes place over around 10 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (max 28°C), followed by a 15-day maceration on the skins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for a minimum of 24 months in 25-hl French oak barrels and 65-hl Slavonian oak barrels. Bottling takes place in the third year in a climate-controlled cellar.
