Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Echezeaux Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin 2023 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Nose
The nose is expressive, driven by aromas of cherry and plum reminiscent of ripe stone fruit. Notes of liquorice add a spicy, balsamic touch, while flower petals lend the whole a delicate floral dimension.
Palate
The palate shows a medium- to full-bodied structure, generous and fluid, built around a core of fleshy, unctuous fruit. The soft, powdery tannins give the wine a velvety texture and a fine harmony.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs well with roasted meats or meats in sauce, such as beef, lamb, duck or game, whose richness matches the wine's structure. It also goes well with medium-strength cheeses, which complement its floral and spicy character.
Serving and cellaring
This Echezeaux Grand Cru 2023 belongs to the category of wines for laying down, its concentration and velvety tannins promising excellent cellaring potential.

The estate
Domaine du Clos Frantin was acquired by the House of Albert Bichot in 1965. Based in an 18th-century mansion in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, the estate is now run by Albéric Bichot, who has headed the family company since 1996. Focused on Premier Cru and Grand Cru terroirs, the estate has farmed its vines organically, with certification, since 2012, a distinctive feature that shapes its identity among the Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits.
The vineyard
Echezeaux Grand Cru comes from a terroir located in the commune of Flagey-Echezeaux, halfway up the slope between Clos de Vougeot and the Premiers Crus of Vosne-Romanée, in an appellation whose name derives from a Gallo-Roman root designating a former hamlet. The vines are farmed organically, and the plot is being progressively replanted with higher-performing vine selections, as part of a continuous drive to improve grape quality.
Vinification and ageing
Echezeaux Grand Cru 2023 is vinified using a non-interventionist approach in a gravity-fed winery, which allows the fruit to be handled gently. The wine is then aged for 16 to 18 months in high-quality French oak barrels, giving it a harmonious integration of oak and a refined texture.
Grape variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
