The estate
Founded in 1831 in Monthélie, near Beaune, the house of Albert Bichot is now based in Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy. Led since 1996 by Albéric Bichot, the sixth generation of the family, it combines a négociant business with a vineyard of more than 100 hectares spread across six domaines, farmed according to organic or sustainable principles. This independent, family-owned house is dedicated to revealing the typicity of each Burgundy terroir it vinifies.
The vineyard
The Santenay Village 2023 comes from the Santenay appellation, at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, on the lower slopes of Mont-de-Sène. The vines enjoy exposures ranging from east to south and grow on limestone soils containing marls, a terroir that, although traditionally devoted to red wines, proves particularly well suited to growing Chardonnay.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification of the Santenay Village 2023 begins with a manual harvest, followed by rigorous sorting and gentle pressing that respects the fruit. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is aged on fine lees in oak barrels for 14 to 16 months, with 15 to 20% new oak, a measured proportion that adds complexity without masking the expression of the terroir.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
