Bollinger unveils a new chapter in its historic partnership with James Bond
The estate
Nicknamed “Boll” by Champenois or “Bolly” by the English, the timeless and legendary Champagne Bollinger Maison is part of the small circle of the greatest Champagne houses. The style of champagne Bollinger is defined by exemplary precision at every step of winemaking. Respect for tradition, hand riddling, cork sealing of reserve magnums, the last in-house cooper in the region—this pursuit of excellence has symbolized the entire culture of Bollinger champagne since its creation in 1829 in Aÿ. More than an art, it is a heritage.
The vineyard
Bollinger draws its uniqueness from its 174 hectares spread across seven main vineyards, 85% of which are Grands and Premiers Crus of Champagne, allowing the house to be one of the few to produce its own grapes for its blends. The house’s signature grape variety, Pinot Noir, represents 60% of the vineyard’s plantings.
The wine
In 1979, the partnership between the prestigious Champagne Bollinger Maison and James Bond was born on the occasion of the 11th installment of the saga: Moonraker.
To celebrate 45 years of this faithful collaboration, Bollinger unveils a limited edition of its Special Cuvée in a premium version. The bottle comes in a black gift box featuring a golden gun-barrel motif and Bond silhouette, black-and-gold codes, metallic embossing, and the 007 logo on both the box and the bottle’s neck label.
Bollinger’s Special Cuvée, inspired by a suggestion from George Bollinger’s British agent in 1911, quickly established itself as an exceptional champagne. Its name, chosen for its subtlety and elegance, reflects the unique character and complexity of this champagne. Composed predominantly of Pinot Noir, complemented by Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, Special Cuvée is the result of meticulous work and masterful blending.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking of Bollinger’s Special Cuvée is a precise alchemy rooted in tradition. The exclusive use of the cuvée (first pressing) and a moderate dosage between 7 and 8 g/liter allow the purity and finesse of the champagne to shine. Extended cellar aging underscores Bollinger’s commitment to excellence, revealing a Brut Champagne of remarkable structure and complexity.
Its cellar maturation, twice as long as the appellation’s standards, and the use of reserve wines kept for up to 15 years in magnums, bestow this champagne with depth and aromatic richness.
Grape varieties
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier.
