Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Femme de Champagne Grand Cru Brut 2002 Cuvée by Duval-Leroy
Tasting
Color
This wine reveals a magnificent golden hue, illuminated by subtle pale highlights. The effervescence stands out with extremely fine bubbles forming a delicate, persistent cordon.
Nose
Highly elegant, the aromatic bouquet reveals scents of acacia and linden blossom, intertwined with notes of stewed fruit and citrus. Subtle mineral touches, along with vanilla, hazelnut and lightly toasted brioche, enhance this beautiful complexity.
Palate
The attack is lively and refined, offering a silky texture. The palate unfolds with indulgent flavors of brioche, vanilla, dried fruit, lemon and mandarin, rounded out by notes of honey, almond paste and fig. The remarkably long finish lingers on beautiful minerality and lasting freshness.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée is particularly enjoyable as part of a refined aperitif. It also pairs wonderfully with delicate dishes such as white truffle risotto, oysters, caviar, white fish sushi or a citrus poultry terrine. A well-aged cheese, such as an aged Comté, will also beautifully enhance its aromas.
Serving and Aging
To fully enjoy this 2002 vintage Grand Cru, we recommend serving it chilled, at an ideal temperature between 8°C and 10°C. With exceptional aging potential, this wine will continue to develop favorably over the years.
Other Characteristics
This wine stands out for its zero dosage (Brut Nature, 0 g/L), highlighting the purity of its aromas and its natural elegance.
The Elegance of a Great Champagne by Duval-Leroy
The Estate
Founded in 1859, the House of Duval-Leroy is located in Vertus, in the heart of the prestigious Champagne region. This family-owned estate, a pioneer in adopting sustainable practices and certified for its high environmental value, cultivates an extensive vineyard of around two hundred hectares. Historically shaped by the visionary leadership of Carol Duval-Leroy, the estate is now run by her three sons, Julien, Charles and Louis Duval-Leroy. This iconic brand continues to shine internationally, offering cuvées of exceptional quality that remain true to the identity of their terroir.
The Vineyard
The grapes come exclusively from Grand Cru-classified terroirs. The vines, aged between 35 and 45 years, thrive in the prestigious villages of the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) as well as in the Ambonnay terroir. The estate applies sustainable viticultural methods that respect the environment and biodiversity.
The Vintage
The year 2002 is recognized as exceptional. The growing cycle benefited from ideal weather conditions, marked by a particularly mild winter and low rainfall. The season continued with a very sunny summer, offering dry, mild weather through to the harvest, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of this cuvée is carried out with extreme precision, with rigorous separation of the different plots during vinification. 20% of the musts are vinified in 220-liter oak barrels. The process includes malolactic fermentation as well as natural clarification, without any fining. Finally, this exceptional wine benefits from an extended aging period of 20 years on the lees, giving it all its complexity.
Grape Varieties
This blend is composed of 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir.
