Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Soutiran Millésimé Grand Cru 2020
Tasting
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great elegance, unveiling scents of white flowers and brioche that intertwine with notes of white fruits, pear, quince and red fruits. A touch of honey rounds off this ensemble, supported by a pronounced saline minerality.
Palate
The attack is smooth and rich, offering an opulent, long and perfectly balanced palate. The effervescence is beautifully integrated thanks to the lengthy ageing. Flavours of apple and spices come through, enhanced by a mineral backbone with iodised nuances typical of its chalky terroir.
Food and wine pairing
This gastronomic wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, crab or lobster. Its lovely vivacity and the finesse of its bubbles contrast ideally with the rich texture of shellfish, while bringing out their delicate, iodised flavours.
Serving and cellaring
The Millésimé Grand Cru 2020 has a robust structure that gives it excellent ageing potential. Kept in good conditions, it will continue to develop its aromatic complexity in the bottle for several years.
A complex and gastronomic Grand Cru champagne crafted by Soutiran
The estate
Founded in the 1950s, the Soutiran estate is based in Ambonnay, in the heart of Champagne. Today, Valérie Renaux, granddaughter of the founder, and her husband Patrick Renaux run this family-owned property. The estate looks after six hectares of its own vines and manages another four, including parcels classified as Premier Cru and Grand Cru. The house stands out for its artisanal approach, its commitment to sustainable viticulture and its extended ageing periods. These traditional methods give rise to gastronomic wines of great depth.
The vineyard
The vines thrive on the terroir of Ambonnay, a village classified as Grand Cru located in the Montagne de Reims, in Champagne. The vineyard extends over clay-limestone soils particularly rich in magnesium, which gives the grapes a unique mineral, saline and iodised signature. The team cultivates its parcels with the utmost respect for the environment, practising sustainable viticulture that includes the use of organic fertilisers to nourish depleted soils and preserve the authenticity of the terroir.
The vintage
2020 is recognised as a fine winegrowing year in the region, offering favourable climatic conditions that allowed grapes of great quality to be harvested, ensuring a balanced and fresh wine.
Vinification and ageing
To craft the Millésimé Grand Cru 2020, the house favours patient and traditional methods. A portion of the volume, estimated at around 11%, is vinified in oak barrels. The wine then benefits from extended ageing on lees over several years, well beyond the usual standards, followed by a minimum rest of six months on cork before being released for sale.
Grape varieties
This blend is composed of 53% Chardonnay and 47% Pinot Noir.
