A sun-kissed, opulent Saint-Émilion Grand Cru by François Mitjavile
The estate
Established in 1978, Château Tertre Roteboeuf is a cult Bordeaux estate in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. Now run by the Mitjavile family, the property belongs to François Mitjavile. The vineyard of around 6 hectares, on amphitheater-shaped clay-limestone slopes, is planted mainly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Very low yields, harvesting at extreme ripeness, and minimalist winemaking define an intense, deep, silky style, unclassified by the owner’s choice.
The vineyard
The Château Tertre Roteboeuf vineyard covers around 6 hectares in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, at the heart of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. The vines are planted on amphitheater-shaped clay-limestone slopes, benefiting from a particularly favorable south-southeast exposure. These dry soils, composed of clay and limestone, give the wine its signature minerality and exceptional aging capacity. Vineyard management, marked by intentionally limited yields and meticulous vine work, favors quality over quantity.
The vintage
The 2015 vintage stands out for exceptional climatic conditions in Bordeaux. The year was marked by warm days and cool nights, encouraging slow, gradual ripening of the grapes. This thermal contrast helped preserve aromatic freshness while developing remarkable concentration. Harvesting, carried out late between October 8 and 12, benefited from ideal conditions, making it possible to reach optimal phenolic ripeness. The 2015 vintage is thus characterized by its sun-kissed, rich, and opulent profile.
Winemaking and aging
Château Tertre Roteboeuf 2015 is crafted according to a minimalist approach that respects the natural expression of the terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested at extreme ripeness, allowing selection of the finest berries. Winemaking favors limited intervention to preserve the authenticity of the fruit. Aging takes place in new oak barrels, bringing structure and complexity to the wine while respecting its original character. This aging method helps develop the mocha and spice aromas that define this vintage.
