Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Clos Canarelli 2023
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep, vivid red.
Nose
Airy and subtly smoky, the bouquet exudes intense aromas of black fruits, harmoniously blended with notes of graphite, wild herbs and game.
Palate
The palate offers remarkable balance despite its power. It reveals firm, mineral tannins, faithful reflections of its terroir, along with a complexity marked by earthy and meaty accents.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, Mediterranean dishes based on game, as well as cheeses or a Corsican charcuterie platter featuring coppa, lonzu, prisuttu or figatellu.
The authentic, mineral expression of a Corse Figari wine
The estate
Taken over in 1993 by Yves Canarelli, its current owner, Clos Canarelli has become a true benchmark in Corsica. Located in the south of the island, this estate has distinguished itself through its deep commitment to preserving native grape varieties and showcasing its terroir. Cultivated according to the principles of organic farming and biodynamics, the vineyard produces wines with a strong sense of identity. Today, the estate embodies the very soul of island winemaking, skilfully blending historic traditions with innovative techniques.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a plot planted in 1997 within the Corse Figari appellation. The vines thrive on poor soils composed of decomposed granite and red alluvial deposits. This hot, dry terroir is swept by African winds that naturally keep the vineyard healthy. Yields are deliberately limited and the harvest is carried out by hand.
Winemaking and aging
For this 2023 vintage, the grapes are fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts, accompanied by daily punching down to encourage contact between the must and the skins. The wine then undergoes extended aging in large wooden foudres. Finally, it is bottled without any fining or filtration.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Sciaccarellu (60%) and Niellucciu (40%).
