Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Tarra di Sognu 2024 from Clos Canarelli
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a deep, brilliant hue, adorned with subtle purple highlights.
Nose
Highly expressive, the bouquet exudes aromas of fresh dark fruits such as blueberry and wild cherry, mingled with floral notes of violet. The whole is enhanced by a typical maquis imprint, along with myrtle, sweet spices, camphor and a delicate touch of black olive.
Palate
The palate stands out for its finesse and airy structure. Carried by silky tannins and a lovely mineral tension, the palate offers a vertical expression with great freshness. The long, lingering finish stretches into savoury saline and herbaceous notes.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine will pair wonderfully with slow-cooked meats with Mediterranean accents, such as veal with black olives served with chestnut polenta, a lamb stew with maquis herbs, or a prune tagine.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the Tarra di Sognu 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 16°C. This wine, built for ageing, can be enjoyed from 2026 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2037, with a peak expected between 2027 and 2035.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Red Wine from Clos Canarelli
The Estate
Located in Tarabucetta, Clos Canarelli is an essential reference in Corsica. While the origins of this family vineyard date back more than fifty years, its modern history truly began in 1993 when Yves Canarelli took over the estate. Now run by Yves and Catherine Canarelli, the property spans around thirty hectares. A pioneer of biodynamics on the island, the estate is known for its determined commitment to reviving forgotten native grape varieties and producing wines that are easy to drink, fresh and deeply rooted in their terroir.
The Vineyard
This red wine comes from the experimental Tarra di Sognu project, a five-hectare walled vineyard carved out of the rock on the heights of Bonifacio. Unlike the estate's historic granite soils, this exceptional terroir is composed of limestone. Close to the sea, it enjoys a warm, windy Mediterranean climate, marked by strong temperature swings between day and night. The vines are cultivated according to strict biodynamic principles. This wine is classified as Vin de France.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Tarra di Sognu 2024 is harvested by hand. After destemming, the wine is vinified naturally using indigenous yeasts selected on the estate. Maceration is long and minimally interventionist to preserve the purity of the fruit. The wine is then aged for 18 months in 34-hectolitre foudres and demi-muids, with no new oak used. It is finally bottled without fining or filtration.
