Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Les Glorieuses 2023 from Clos Marie

Tasting Notes

Appearance
This cuvée reveals a dark, particularly deep colour.

Nose
The nose reveals great aromatic complexity, blending ripe black fruit aromas such as blackcurrant and blackberry with notes of concentrated red fruits. With aeration, subtle floral touches of violet and lavender unfold, accompanied by typical scents of garrigue, sweet spices and light hints of graphite.

Palate
On the palate, this wine combines power and freshness through a fleshy texture and a velvety mouthfeel. The tannins, at once fine, noble and structuring, are perfectly balanced by a bright acidity, leading to a remarkably long finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats and Mediterranean dishes. It will ideally accompany a roast leg of lamb, pigeon stuffed with mushrooms, or duck breast glazed with honey and spices.

Serving and Cellaring

To fully enjoy Les Glorieuses 2023, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 16 and 17°C, taking care to decant the bottle two to three hours before tasting. Built to age, this wine has very great cellaring potential.

The Elegance and Depth of a Great Wine from Pic Saint-Loup

The Estate

Officially established in 2000, Clos Marie has become an unmissable reference in the Languedoc. Run by its founders, Françoise Julien and Christophe Peyrus, the estate spans around 23 hectares of vines cultivated with passion. Deeply committed to environmental respect, the owners farm the entire vineyard organically and biodynamically. Thanks to a hands-on, minimal-intervention approach, the estate produces rare and sought-after cuvées that precisely reflect the richness and freshness of their Mediterranean terroir.

The Vineyard

Located in the commune of Lauret, at the heart of the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, the vineyard thrives at an altitude of around 650 metres on the foothills of the Hortus mountain. The very old vines, aged between 20 and over 40 years, sink their roots into deep soils made up of marls and clay-limestone from a piedmont alluvial fan. This high-altitude terroir benefits from a contrasting Mediterranean climate, with cool nights that promote slow, optimal ripening of the berries. All the plots are farmed according to biodynamic principles, with exclusively hand-picked harvests.

Winemaking and Ageing

The Les Glorieuses 2023 cuvée is the result of a very minimal-intervention winemaking process. The grapes, including a significant proportion of whole-cluster fruit, macerate for a long period of 15 to 20 days. The wine is then aged for two to three winters, or 22 to 30 months, in large vessels such as foudres and 600-litre demi-muids. This extended resting on fine lees allows the wine to clarify and stabilise naturally.
