Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Métairies du Clos 2024 Clos Marie
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a deep, particularly concentrated purple hue.
Nose
The nose reveals a complex bouquet dominated by aromas of black and red fruits, such as blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry. It is enriched with notes typical of the garrigue, evoking black olive, herbes de Provence, pepper and liquorice, all underscored by a lovely mineral thread.
Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a full-bodied texture supported by dense yet remarkably silky tannins. A remarkable natural acidity brings freshness and extends the tasting towards a long, persistent finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with lamb-based dishes, such as a rack of lamb with garlic purée or a shoulder braised with Mediterranean herbs. It will also complement roasted beef, charcuterie boards or well-aged hard cheeses beautifully.
Service and storage
The Clos Marie "Métairies du Clos" 2024 will reveal its full potential after a few years in the cellar. It can be enjoyed from around 2027 and will continue to evolve favourably for twenty to thirty years under optimal storage conditions.
Other characteristics
In order to preserve all its aromatic complexity and phenolic richness, this wine is bottled without prior fining or filtration. It may therefore present a slight natural haze.
A wine from Pic Saint-Loup combining finesse and minerality
The estate
Founded in 1994, the Clos Marie estate quickly established itself as a key reference in the Languedoc. From 1995, Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien, the current owners, took over and transformed this property into a leading independent estate. Pioneers in their approach, they embraced the principles of biodynamics early on to bring out the best in their terroirs. Today, the estate is recognised for its constant pursuit of elegance, producing authentic wines that express the full richness of their appellation with great precision.
The vineyard
Located in the village of Lauret, north of Montpellier, this vineyard flourishes on the foothills of the Cévennes, at the heart of the Pic Saint-Loup appellation. The vines, grown in gobelet at a very high density, take root in hillside soils of clay-limestone rich in decalcified red clay. The estate spans twenty-three hectares, twenty of which are dedicated to red grape varieties, cultivated using rigorous biodynamic methods. The vines, grown from massale selection, benefit from Mediterranean sunshine tempered by cool breezes descending from the mountains.
Winemaking and aging
For the Clos Marie "Métairies du Clos" 2024 cuvée, the harvest is entirely done by hand and followed by careful sorting. After partial destemming, fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts at low temperature, accompanied by regular punching down of the cap. The wine is then aged for around eighteen months in large barrels and neutral wood vessels, with no new oak used, in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit. The wine undergoes minimal racking before bottling.
Grape varieties
This blend is made up of Grenache (50%), Carignan (30%) and Syrah (20%).
