Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Marsannay Village "La Charme aux Prêtres" 2023 from Domaine Bruno Clair
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a deep ruby-red hue, enhanced by delicate purple highlights.
Nose
Remarkably refined, the bouquet opens with intense notes of fresh red fruit such as raspberry and cherry, intertwined with wild blackberry. It then gains complexity with floral nuances of peony, spices such as black pepper and vanilla, and subtle hints of undergrowth.
Palate
Generous and sensual, the palate reveals a full-bodied texture carried by round, radiant tannins. Lively acidity perfectly balances the crunchy red fruit, drawing the wine out towards a flavourful finish of impressive length.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with fine game such as fillet of young wild boar, roast poultry served with mushrooms and smoked bacon, or gently cooked red meats such as a rack of veal.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, this wine is best served at a temperature of 16 to 17°C. Light decanting may be beneficial in its early years. This wine has good ageing potential: it can be enjoyed from 2026 and will continue to evolve gracefully until around 2039.
The elegance and depth of a red wine from Marsannay
The estate
Founded in 1979 by Bruno Clair, Domaine Bruno Clair is a leading figure in Burgundy, France. Based in Marsannay-la-Côte, this family estate covers 27 hectares spread across eight villages. Today, it is run by Bruno Clair, his wife Isabelle and their three children, Édouard, Margaux and Arthur. Renowned for its classic approach, the estate vinifies only grapes from its own vineyards and is strongly committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, showcasing the richness of Burgundian terroirs.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from a 0.76-hectare micro-plot perched at an altitude of 300 metres on the slopes of the Marsannay appellation. Facing south-east, the vines, planted in 1962 and 1980, thrive on clay-limestone soils over a subsoil of Comblanchien limestone and oyster-bearing marl. The estate favours uncertified organic farming, without chemical herbicides, and harvests entirely by hand.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage stands out for weather conditions that allowed the grapes to reach harmonious ripeness. It offers fine aromatic richness while retaining remarkable energy and freshness, highlighting the resilience of this high-altitude terroir in the face of climatic challenges.
Vinification and ageing
After meticulous sorting in the vineyard, 30 to 50% whole bunches are included in the vinification. Fermentation starts naturally with indigenous yeasts and is followed by 10 to 15 days of maceration in wooden vats. The wine is then aged for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, around 20% of which are new.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir
