Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2023 Domaine Cordier Père et Fils
Tasting Notes
Colour
With crystalline purity, the white colour ranges from pale yellow to golden hues depending on the plot.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals a lovely fruity richness combining pear, white peach and ripe lemon. Subtle mineral touches of crushed stone intertwine with delicate nuances of hazelnut and brioche.
Palate
Combining power and elegance, the palate offers a dense and perfectly balanced structure. Remarkable tension and preserved acidity bring plenty of freshness, extending the pleasure into a finish of exceptional persistence.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted fish, as well as fine shellfish such as lobster or langoustines. It also enhances creamy poultry dishes, fine charcuterie or hard cheeses such as Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. It can be enjoyed now but will continue to develop in the cellar until around 2028, or even beyond for the most exceptional terroirs.
The Authentic Expression of a Great White Burgundy
The Estate
Founded in 1945 in the heart of the Mâconnais, Domaine Cordier Père et Fils is a key reference in Burgundy, France. Now led by Christophe Cordier, a passionate winemaker at the helm since 1987, the estate spans 30 to 35 hectares. A true mosaic of terroirs, the domaine stands out for its state-of-the-art gravity-flow facilities and its deep commitment to nature. Under the guidance of its current owner, the vineyard has embarked on a transition towards organic and biodynamic farming, further enhancing the authentic expression of each plot.
The Vineyard
Located on the slopes of the famous Solutré and Vergisson rocks, the Pouilly-Fuissé vines benefit from an exceptional terroir. The Jurassic-era soils, composed of clay-limestone and schist, give the grapes a unique minerality. Vine management is rigorous, favouring controlled yields, short pruning and exclusively hand-harvesting to preserve the optimal quality of the fruit.
The Vintage
2023 was marked by sunny weather and particularly mild conditions. This favourable climate allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, with harvesting taking place between late August and early September, ensuring perfect balance without excess.
Winemaking and Ageing
The making of this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2023 relies on a fruit-respectful approach. After gentle whole-bunch pressing, the juices are transferred to barrels by gravity. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place entirely on the lees, with no fining and only very light filtration before bottling, thus preserving the wine's full purity.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
