In-Stock
Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Monthélie 1er Cru "Les Duresses" 2022, Domaine des Terres de Velle
Tasting
Colour
Beautifully intense, the colour reveals a deep red hue.
Nose
Delicate and restrained at first, the bouquet then reveals a lovely complexity. It exudes aromas of red and black fruits, such as morello cherry and blackberry, enhanced by subtle floral touches of peony, along with spicy and leathery notes.
Palate
The attack gives way to a palate marked by finesse and elegance. The tannic structure is both firm and supple, with a very fine grain. The balance between acidity and alcohol is harmonious, offering a lovely freshness that stretches into a persistent, well-defined finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with poultry, such as duck or pigeon, as well as white meats like veal or rabbit. It will also enhance game dishes, mushroom-based preparations, or a platter of matured cheeses including Brie, Époisses or Livarot.
Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the Monthélie 1er Cru "Les Duresses" 2022 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. This wine can continue to age in the cellar and will be enjoyable to drink until around 2034.
The elegance and minerality of a red wine from Monthélie
The estate
Founded in July 2009 by Sophie and Fabrice Laronze, Domaine des Terres de Velle is located in the heart of Burgundy. This 7-hectare estate stands out for its artisanal approach and its respect for the terroir. In July 2023, the estate was acquired by the investment fund Solexia, led by Hervé Kratiroff and Eric Versini. Since 2024, winemaking has been entrusted to Pierre Vincent, a winegrower who became co-owner, bringing a vision focused on purity and, in the process, renaming the estate after himself.
The vineyard
The "Les Duresses" premier cru plot covers just over 0.17 hectares, on the border between the villages of Monthélie and Auxey-Duresses. East-facing, allowing the vines to benefit from the morning sun while avoiding the excessive heat of the afternoon, they were planted in 1979. They thrive on complex clay-limestone soils scattered with stones, giving the wine a pronounced mineral character. Viticulture here is pragmatic, with no chemical herbicides or insecticides, favouring mechanical soil work instead.
The vintage
2022 was marked by climatic conditions that favoured excellent grape ripeness. In response to climate change, the harvest was carried out early in order to preserve all the freshness and natural acidity of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Monthélie 1er Cru "Les Duresses" 2022 follows a philosophy of minimal intervention. After a selective destemming, fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts and lasts between two and three weeks. The wine is then aged on its coarse lees to gain complexity. The use of new oak barrels is very limited, with the estate favouring used barrels as well as ceramic or stoneware containers. Finally, bottling takes place without filtration, in keeping with the lunar calendar.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
