Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 2024 by Domaine du Château de Meursault
Tasting
Colour
This white wine reveals itself in a brilliant, luminous hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is expressive, releasing scents of mimosa honey and Turkish delight, accompanied by floral nuances reminiscent of carnation, lilac and violet. Spicy touches of bergamot and nutmeg round out this ensemble.
Palate
The palate offers a lovely freshness underpinned by structured acidity. It unfolds a rich, opulent texture, revealing flavours of poached white fruits, pear, toasted hazelnut and white chocolate. Notes of walnut and sesame oil intertwine with subtle hints of black pepper and Oriental spices, leading to an intense, lingering finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with seafood such as delicate fish, shellfish or lobster. It also wonderfully complements white meats, poultry in creamy sauces, veal and foie gras, as well as mature cheeses such as Époisses, Roquefort or Bleu de Bresse.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this 2024 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 12 and 14°C. Although already approachable, this wine has the structure needed to develop further in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2036.
The Elegance and Richness of a Great White Burgundy
The Estate
Founded in the 11th century, Domaine du Château de Meursault is an unmissable historic landmark. Located in the Côte de Beaune, the estate spans approximately 65 hectares divided into 110 plots. Since 2012, the Halley family, and Olivier Halley in particular, has owned the estate, while management is entrusted to Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. The estate stands out for its environmental commitment, illustrated by organic certification obtained in 2022 and innovative initiatives in favour of biodiversity.
The Vineyard
The Charmes climat is the largest Premier Cru in the Meursault appellation. The plots are located mainly in the Charmes Dessus section, ideally exposed to the east on a mid-slope hillside. This terroir rests on well-drained clay-limestone soils, divided into two distinct sectors: one predominantly clay-based, the other rich in limestone. This geological duality lends great complexity to the grapes. Vineyard work is carried out manually by a dedicated team, ensuring meticulous monitoring of each plot throughout the year.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage was marked by capricious weather conditions, with a wet, unstable spring, heavy rainfall and erratic temperature fluctuations. Despite strong mildew pressure, rigorous work in the vineyards preserved the quality of the berries, although yields were modest. The harvest, later than in previous years, took place by hand between 16 and 25 September.
Winemaking and Aging
For this cuvée, the grapes undergo whole-cluster pressing. Fermentation then takes place in barrels. Ageing on lees is carefully tailored to respect and highlight the unique personality of this terroir.
Grape Variety
Chardonnay (100%).
