Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault Village "Le Limozin" 2023

Tasting

Colour
Displaying beautiful brilliance, this white wine reveals a delicate pale golden hue.

Nose
Particularly expressive, the aromatic bouquet reveals delicious notes of ripe yellow fruit, intertwined with floral touches of honeysuckle. Subtle nuances of ginger blend harmoniously with an elegant mineral backbone.

Palate
The attack is lively and energetic, paving the way for a full-bodied and generous texture. The palate captivates with its remarkable tension and freshness, atypical for the appellation, stretching out into a long finish carried by a delicate acidity.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great French white wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as poultry in creamy sauce, seared scallops or noble white-fleshed fish.

Service and Storage

To fully enjoy all its complexity, this wine is best served at a temperature of around 12°C. It can be enjoyed while young, but also boasts fine ageing potential and can be cellared until around 2033.

The Modern and Radiant Expression of a Great White Meursault

The Estate

Founded in the eleventh century by monks from Cîteaux, Domaine du Château de Meursault is a landmark historic figure in Burgundy. Spanning a vast vineyard of around 65 hectares, the estate oversees prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Acquired at the end of 2012, the estate now belongs to the Halley family. Under the direction of its technical team, the estate continues a centuries-old expertise while modernising its approaches, an excellence recently recognised with an award for the preservation of its exceptional architectural heritage.

The Vineyard

The plot that gives rise to this cuvée takes its name from a former stream that once bordered the vines. Ideally located in the heart of the Meursault appellation, this terroir enjoys prestigious neighbours, bordering the renowned premier cru climats Les Genevrières and Les Charmes. The vines flourish on clay and limestone-rich soils, offering ideal conditions to reveal all the complexity and minerality typical of this part of the Côte de Beaune.

The Vintage

The year was marked by unpredictable and capricious weather, requiring constant attention and meticulous work in the vineyards. Early September was characterised by intense heat. To preserve the natural acidity of the berries and avoid overripening, harvest began early, starting on 4 September under particularly warm conditions, resulting in a generous crop.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes are hand-picked with careful sorting. In the cellar, whole clusters are gently pressed for two and a half hours. The must is then chilled before being barrelled directly, without settling, to retain maximum lees, while benefiting from bioprotection. Ageing takes place over a period of 18 months in French oak demi-muids, 40% of which are new and lightly toasted. This process is carried out without any racking or lees stirring, thus favouring a pure expression of the terroir.
