The estate
Domaine du Château de Meursault has belonged to the Halley family since December 2012, under the impetus of Olivier Halley. Its modern viticultural configuration, however, dates back to 1973, when André Boisseaux restructured the estate in the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy. Now farmed organically across 67 hectares, the domaine brings together a mosaic of climats ranging from Meursault to the hill of Corton, making it one of the region's major players.
The vineyard
Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" comes from a 12.12-are parcel located mid-slope on a pronounced gradient of around 25%, facing due south and looking towards the hill of Corton. The soils, derived from the weathering of highly calcareous Pernand marls, give the terroir a strong minerality. This sector, rather late-ripening because of its altitude and exposure to winds, gives the grapes time to reach full maturity. The vineyard is farmed organically, with careful pruning and attentive management of the vegetation cover.
The vintage
In the 2025 vintage, flowering began between 25 and 28 May for the whites. The conditions of the year allowed for steady ripening, yielding grapes of great purity. The estate describes this vintage as promising, with expressive, chiselled and aromatic whites.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" 2025 are hand-harvested into small crates, then sorted by hand before pressing and settling. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels over 10 to 15 days, followed by ageing on the lees, with lees stirring that is not systematic and is adapted to preserve the tension characteristic of this terroir. Malolactic fermentation finishes in early February, before ageing in barrel continues until bottling.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay, the only grape variety permitted for white wines of the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation.
