Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Les Trois C." 2024 Domaine Guffens-Heynen
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful lemon hue, adorned with golden hints of pale to medium intensity.
Nose
The nose opens with seductive aromas of orchard fruits and white flowers, delicately intertwined with notes of frangipane. With aeration, the bouquet gains complexity, revealing subtle smoky touches, hints of hazelnut, and a deep mineral backbone.
Palate
Ample and rich, the palate offers a silky texture supported by a medium to full-bodied structure. The attack is smooth and juicy, revealing crisp flavours of white peach. The whole retains remarkable tension and minerality, stretching elegantly toward a long, fine, and persistent finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood and shellfish such as lobster, scallops, crab, or oysters. It also enhances white-fleshed fish like cod and halibut, as well as roasted poultry served with a creamy or buttery sauce. A delicate vegetable risotto or dishes featuring lightly toasted notes also make excellent choices.
Service and Storage
Endowed with exceptional ageing potential, the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Les Trois C." 2024 will evolve beautifully over time in the cellar, allowing its complexity to fully blossom.
The Richness and Minerality of a Great White Wine from the Mâconnais
The Estate
Founded in 1979 following the acquisition of the first plots by a Belgian couple, Domaine Guffens-Heynen has become an unmissable reference in Burgundy, France. Still run today by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine, the estate oversees a vineyard of approximately 5.3 hectares in the Mâconnais. Certified organic and biodynamic since 2006, the estate stands out for its demanding philosophy, favouring extremely low yields and an authentic expression of terroir. The producer is recognised worldwide for its uncompromising approach, elevating its cuvées to the pinnacle of the winemaking hierarchy.
The Vineyard
This Pouilly-Fuissé wine comes from a blend of three distinct plots: La Côte, En Carmentrans, and Les Crays. The vines, aged forty to fifty years, are planted on the steep slopes of the Roche de Vergisson. This complex terroir rests on clay-limestone soils of Jurassic origin. The southern exposure of some vines and the mid-slope position of other plots give the grapes optimal ripeness, a fleshy texture, and a pronounced mineral identity.
The Vintage
The year 2024 was particularly demanding, marked by record rainfall and very low sunshine. Spring experienced exceptional precipitation, followed by strong disease pressure and hailstorms in June that caused significant losses in the vineyards. Despite these difficult weather conditions and a historically low harvest, an extremely rigorous selection process made it possible to obtain grapes of remarkable quality and freshness.
Winemaking and Aging
Harvesting is done by hand with successive sorting to retain only the best berries. Whole-cluster pressing is carried out gently to extract only the first, highest-quality juices. Fermentation of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Les Trois C." 2024 begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on the lees for eight months in French oak barrels, of which about 25% is new wood, followed by a further eight months in concrete tanks. Bottling takes place without fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
