Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand cru 2022 from Domaine Henri Rebourseau
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a deep red hue, reminiscent of dark ruby, with subtle purple highlights.
Nose
The bouquet is fine and expressive, opening with particularly delicate and appealing top notes. It exudes seductive aromas of ripe red and black fruit, harmoniously blended with hints of spice, undergrowth and truffle.
Palate
With its firm structure, this wine unfolds a fleshy, intense and mouth-watering palate. Chalky tannins frame a slightly dark, deep core that stretches into a remarkably persistent finish.
Food and wine pairings
This red Grand Cru pairs beautifully with slow-cooked noble meats such as roast pheasant, pigeon or a fine cut of aged beef. It will also elevate poultry in a rich brown sauce, pan-seared foie gras or dishes that showcase wild mushrooms and black truffle.
Serving and cellaring
To reveal the full complexity of the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand cru 2022, it is best decanted two to three hours before serving, at an ideal temperature of 16.5 to 18°C. Built to last, this wine has an ageing potential of several decades and can easily be cellared for 15 to 25 years, or even longer.
The elegance and depth of a Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru
The estate
Although the family's winemaking history began in 1782, Domaine Henri Rebourseau in Gevrey-Chambertin was truly founded in 1861 by Jean-Baptiste Rebourseau. Located in the heart of Burgundy, this iconic estate tends 13.5 hectares of vines, including an exceptional proportion of Grands Crus. A pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture since 1980, the domaine combines tradition with modernity. Today, the Bouygues family is its majority shareholder, in partnership with the founding de Surrel family, thus perpetuating the excellence of this unique heritage.
The vineyard
The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze terroir lies on a due east-facing slope that enjoys ideal morning sunshine. The tiny 0.33-hectare plot farmed by the domaine is home to 50-year-old vines. Their roots reach deep into a complex soil composed of Bajocian limestone outcrops, stony scree, silt and, on the upper section, marl. Farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles, the vineyard benefits from meticulous soil work, which encourages naturally low yields and optimal berry concentration.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was marked by hot, dry weather conditions that led to an early growing cycle. To preserve the perfect balance between full grape ripeness and essential freshness, harvesting began early, on 1 September.
Winemaking and ageing
The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand cru 2022 is crafted in modernised facilities, including a new gravity-flow vat room. After an extremely rigorous hand-sorting of the bunches, each plot is vinified separately to respect the identity of the climat. The wine is then aged in spectacular cellars offering perfect control of temperature and humidity, guiding it through its slow maturation.
