Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2023 by Jean Chartron

Tasting

Colour
Crystalline and translucent, the colour reveals a brilliant white gold hue that subtly evolves towards pale yellow.

Nose
Wonderfully elegant, the aromatic bouquet combines delicate notes of white fruit and flowers such as acacia and hawthorn. A lemony, saline minerality intertwines with subtle buttery touches and toasted hazelnut, the hallmark of impeccably mastered ageing.

Palate
The palate offers superb tension, underpinned by lively acidity that preserves a remarkable freshness. A harmonious roundness is balanced by a mineral, saline structure, extending into a persistent, elegant finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine from France pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish such as lobster, or grilled fish. Its versatility also allows it to accompany poultry and white meats in creamy sauces, as well as lightly spiced dishes.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate the complexity of the Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12 degrees. This wine can be enjoyed from 2025 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2037.

The Freshness and Mineral Elegance of a White Burgundy by Jean Chartron

The Estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard, Domaine Jean Chartron is a historic institution located in Puligny-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy. Today, the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel Chartron and his sister Anne-Laure Chartron Malassagne, passionately runs this 14.5-hectare vineyard. Renowned for its exceptional heritage, which includes several prestigious monopoles, the estate stands out through its constant pursuit of excellence and deep respect for terroir. Under the leadership of Jean-Michel Chartron, the estate has succeeded in raising the quality of its wines to a remarkable level, consolidating its international reputation.

The Vineyard

The grapes behind this cuvée come from the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation, located on the heights of the Côte de Beaune. Planted at an altitude ranging from 250 to 300 metres on the cooler slope of the Corton massif, the vines benefit from a favourable east- and south-east-facing exposure. Farmed organically since 2004, this terroir, with its favourable soils, offers ideal conditions for producing wines of great purity. The grapes are harvested by hand to preserve their integrity.

The Vintage

The year 2023 was marked by unusual climatic conditions, with particularly high temperatures and a notable lack of water during the growing season. Disease pressure was also significant. Nevertheless, thanks to the favourable location of the vines on a cooler slope, the grapes were able to retain fine energy and achieve optimal balance despite these weather challenges.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2023 is carried out with meticulous care. Both the winemaking and the ageing take place entirely in oak barrels, in cellars where humidity and temperature are strictly controlled. The estate deliberately limits the proportion of new wood used during ageing in order to preserve clarity, complexity and pure aromatic expression of the fruit.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
