Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2024 Jean Chartron

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale golden or straw-yellow hue, which will deepen into a richer gold over the years.

Nose
The bouquet opens with delicate notes of white flowers such as acacia and lily of the valley. Over time, it will develop aromas of amber, honey and spices.

Palate
The palate is harmonious and approachable, underpinned by a lovely mineral expression.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs perfectly with terrines, pâtés or cheeses such as brie, camembert, gouda and gruyère. It also goes wonderfully with shellfish in sauce, steamed shrimp, as well as baked fish or matelote-style fish stew.

The Brilliance and Minerality of a Pernand-Vergelesses White Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1859 by master cooper Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic name in Burgundy, based in Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. Today, the fifth generation, represented by Jean-Michel Chartron and his sister Anne-Laure Chartron, runs this 14.50-hectare family estate. The estate is distinguished by its three monopole clos and an environmentally conscious approach, having used no herbicides since the 1980s. Under the guidance of its current owners, the estate has strengthened the quality of its wines, which are predominantly white.

The Vineyard

Produced under the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation, this wine comes from vines cultivated using uncertified organic methods. The vineyard is tended with great respect for the environment, with no herbicide use since the early 1980s, in order to preserve the natural expression of the terroir.

The Vintage

2024 proved particularly challenging for winegrowers in Burgundy due to persistent humidity and record rainfall. These weather conditions led to significant mildew pressure, affecting yields. Nevertheless, by the end of the harvest, the quality of the grapes proved to be a pleasant surprise, resulting in a healthy crop.

Winemaking and Aging

This Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2024 is vinified traditionally in oak barrels sourced mainly from the Allier and Vosges regions, with a proportion of new oak ranging from 10 to 40%. The wine is then aged for 8 to 16 months in temperature-controlled cellars maintained between 12 and 13°C.

Grape Variety

Chardonnay (100%).
