Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Clos de la Maltroie" 2023 Pierre Girardin

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue, illuminated by subtle greenish reflections.

Nose
The nose opens with crisp citrus aromas, reminiscent of lemon and lime, closely intertwined with mineral notes of flint and wet stone. A delicate smoky touch emerges with aeration.

Palate
The attack is lively and fresh, leading into a mid-palate with a silky, generous texture. The balance between roundness and acidity highlights lemony, mineral flavours, enriched with nuances of fruit and white flowers. The long, lingering finish reveals light notes of toasted hazelnut and hints of toastiness.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with raw or lightly cooked seafood, such as oysters or scallops. It also complements white or fatty fish, delicate herb-roasted poultry, light cream-based dishes, as well as fresh or lightly matured goat cheeses.

Service and Storage

For an optimal tasting experience of this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Clos de la Maltroie" 2023, a serving temperature between 10 and 12°C is recommended in its youth, or between 14 and 16°C after a few years of aging. A light decanting for about an hour is advisable. This wine can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve until around 2033.

The Mineral, Crystalline Expression of a Premier Cru from Chassagne-Montrachet

The Estate

Founded in 2016 in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy in France, the Pierre Girardin estate quickly distinguished itself through its contemporary approach. Representing the thirteenth generation of a winegrowing family, current owner Pierre-Vincent Girardin began his project with historic plots before expanding his vineyard to 13 hectares. The estate favours organic and biodynamic practices, seeking to express the pure identity of each terroir. The wines stand out for their technical precision and their ability to adapt to new climatic challenges.

The Vineyard

The plot behind this wine is located in the south-eastern sector of the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. Rising to an average altitude of 250 metres, the vines benefit from a south-eastern exposure that promotes harmonious ripening. The terroir consists of clay-limestone soils containing blocks of Bathonian limestone, a specific geology that lends the grapes a strong mineral identity. Cultivation relies on methods that respect natural cycles and the lunar calendar.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Clos de la Maltroie" 2023 is based on a philosophy of minimal intervention. The grapes undergo whole-bunch fermentation to preserve the delicacy of the structure. Aging takes place over nine months in 456-litre oak barrels, including 40% new wood, followed by three months in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled without any fining or filtration.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
